WASHINGTON, D.C. - Forget the perfect selfie. If you really wanna bump your numbers... bring on the sarcastic tweets about Muslim stereo types.
At least that's what worked for Jennifer Williams, a Muslim woman who used to live in San Antonio, but now lives and works in Washington D.C.
Like many Muslims around the world, she picked up on the twitter trend #muslimapologies (a chance to sarcastically "apologize" for all of the violence being carried out in the name of religion)... so, in good fun.. she tweeted-
"Sorry i read the Quran to learn abt terrorist beliefs but ended up converting to islam b/c of what it said. #muslimapologies #sorrynotsorry."
Whether you're a fan of the tweet or not--- it attracted a lot of attention!
Her twitter following grew to over5,000 with the majority of the new followers based in Saudi Arabia.
When she took a closer look, she found that most them were supporters of Isis- with photos of the Isis black flag as their profile pic. Yikes!
So to clear the air.... she had to tweet yet *again*... this time:
"Just so we're clear: the tweet w/the pic of Isis graffiti was not meant to express my support of Isis. can't believe I even have to say that."
Well, we can! Just takes one post to put the power of the inter-webs into play. #becareful
