BAYTOWN, TX - A wrong-way driver is to blame for a crash that sent two people to the hospital early Tuesday morning.

Around 2:30 a.m., Baytown Police say a van had just started heading north on Highway 146 when the driver saw a car heading the wrong way toward her. She tried to swerve and avoid the car, but the two collided. The drivers of both vehicles were airlifted to the hospital.

"One of the victims, her condition was listed as very grave. That's the one in the van," said Lt. Richard Whitaker. "The other had some pretty massive internal injuries, but we haven't been given any information about how bad they were by the hospital."

Police say there were no obvious signs of alcohol, though that will be part of their investigation.
