SANTA FE, Texas — A former Santa Fe High School English teacher was arrested Monday after school administrators learned she had a sexual relationship with two male students, court documents said.

Kelsey Leigh Gutierrez, 25, is charged with inappropriate relationship between an educator and student. She has since been fired, the Santa Fe Independent School District said.

Gutierrez is accused of having sex multiple times with the students, at homes and in vehicles.

Investigators said Gutierrez and an 18-year-old student engaged in sexual activity while in the backseat of her car, which was parked outside his mother’s apartment, in mid-November. Gutierrez met with the same student a second time at his father’s house. The two watched movies and made out in the living room  before moving to his bedroom, court records said.

Gutierrez is also accused of having sex with a 19-year-old Santa Fe High School student before and after he graduated from the school in May 2016. According to court documents, Gutierrez picked him up from his house and drove him to a Shell gas station, where the two had sex in her car, investigators said. Gutierrez allegedly drove to his house and parked on the side of the road a few days later. Investigators said the teen climbed into her car, where they engaged in intense foreplay.

The third time, Gutierrez allegedly went inside his parent’s house and they hung out in his bedroom naked, officers said. Investigators said the student tried to initiate sex, but they did not have intercourse that day. She met with him a fourth time outside a gym in Webster in late August and the two kissed, court documents said.

Investigators found text messages planning meet-ups between Gutierrez and the teen on both of their cellphones, court records said.

Santa Fe ISD released a statement Monday stating:

“Santa Fe ISD became aware that a former high school teacher was arrested Monday, November 28, 2016, in connection with allegations that she may have engaged in an improper relationship with a student. As soon as the District learned of the allegations, an internal investigation began including campus administrators and the District police department, and the teacher’s employment with the District ended.

We want you to know that we take very seriously any concerns that relate to the well-being of each of our students and our first priority is the safety and education of our students in our district. We will continue to work in cooperation with law enforcement and the District Attorney’s office. Inappropriate actions by teachers will never be acceptable in this District.”

Gutierrez is being held on a $15,000 bond.

Some of you, like us, maybe wondering why these relationships happen.

“A teacher may be having their own ‘unmet needs.’ There might be problems at home, there might be problems in their past…unresolved,” Director of UH Counseling and Psychological Services Dr. Norma Ngo said. “Talking to the students, they can temporarily forget about that, temporarily feel like…this person admires me for who I am.”

Some say social media is also to blame.

“It’s done instantly. It’s done privately,” Ngo said. “You know, so the students can connect with their teachers easier outside of the classroom.”

Some parents have to wonder, what’s it going to take to clean up the classrooms in our schools — not from bad students, but from bad teachers!
