HOUSTON — Houston police and the SWAT team detained six men Sunday after more than 100 rounds of bullets were fired near a southeast Houston apartment complex.

The shooting happened around 11:20 a.m. near the Royal Palms apartments in the 5300 block of Griggs Road.

According to HPD Executive Assistant Chief Troy Finner, several men were traveling in a blue pickup truck when several men in a black Chevy Impala pulled up behind them. A gun battle erupted between the two groups, with nearly 100 rounds of bullets being fired.

During the exchange , the blue pickup truck smashed into the Metro Rail Line.

Two men were transported to the hospital; one of the men was shot in the shoulder area.

Several suspects fled to a nearby apartment complex, and an anonymous caller led police to their whereabouts.

Six of the men were detained for questioning. More suspects remain on the loose.
