Houston’s ‘Urban Ballet’ captivates audiences with fusion of classic, hip-hop dance

HOUSTON — Houston City Dance and SonKiss’d Dance Theather amazed art enthusiast with a production of “Urban Ballet” at the City Dance Studio over the weekend.

The performance was a fusion of music, art and dance that involved a diverse mix of classically trained and hip-hop dancers. Using interpretive dance, the performers expressed the meaning of being black in modern-day America.

The audience also experienced a blend of jazz, hip-hop, modern, and tap dance techniques infused with the music of legendary rapper Tupac Shakur.

Sherese Campbell, the executive Director of Houston City Dance, along with Jaimee Vilela Navarrete, Stephanie Sermas and Chris Thomas, choreographed show.
