HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — A man has been arrested and charged with murdering a father outside of his northwest Harris County home while his five children were inside.
Darius Earl Hudson, 24, has been charged with murder.
Hudson is accused of fatally shooting Hector Ruvalcaba, 37, on Jan. 19 at his home on Bihia Forest near Pincay Oaks.
Charges against Hudson were read in probable cause court Tuesday night, detailing what happened the night of the shooting.
According to court records, Ruvalcaba’s teen daughter heard him talking on the phone with someone as he walked toward the family’s garage. She heard two shots, then ran outside to find her father lying face-down in the garage. The girl woke up her brother, and the two of them tried to administer CPR as they called 911.
Emergency crews arrived, but their dad was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators began to comb through evidence and found numerous drug-related text messages between Ruvalcaba and a man named “D-Money.” They also checked home surveillance cameras and saw, immediately before the shooting, four men pull up to the home in a white Volkswagen Jetta. Two men got out of the vehicle, shot Ruvalcaba in the chest and fled the scene.
Investigators traced D-Money’s cellphone number, which was registered to a woman. They obtained the woman’s address, where they found the white Volkswagen.
Investigators questioned the woman, who identified Hudson, her boyfriend, as D-Money. She told investigators that Hudson often used her car, and that he had driven it on the night of the shooting. The woman was also able to positively identify her boyfriend and her car on the home surveillance footage.
Charges were filed against Hudson and his bond was set at $50,000.
No other arrests have been made.
