HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – One after another, various civil rights advocates are stepping up to not simply call for a Harris County judge`s resignation, they’re flat out demanding it!
“The system of justice in this country is built on the pillar of honesty, integrity and fairness,” said Shelby Stewart of the Greater Houston Coalition for Justice. “And it is something that has been lost on Judge Mc Spadden.”
Michael T. Mc Spadden, the county`s longest-serving felony judge, is continuing to take heat for his recent remarks about black defendants and the black lives matter movement.
“His unfounded remarks that they are not getting good advice from their parents are equally disturbing and play into age-old stereotypes about black people,” said Mustafaa Carroll of the Council on American-Islamic Relations.

To the Houston Chronicle, McSpadden suggested young black men are getting advice from “rag-tag organizations like Black Lives Matter.”
The ACLU, the NAACP, the Greater Houston Coalition for Justice and members of the state legislature all agree Mc Spadden is biased on the bench.
“You know what,” said Cynthia Cole, Executive Director AFSCME. “Unfair is unfair. You shouldn’t have to go into a courtroom and that person has already got some predisposed personality or attitude about who they’re gonna judge that day. That’s unacceptable.”
State Rep. Armando Walle said. “Every time I enter these courtrooms, I want to be able to be judged not by the color of my skin, but by the content of my character.”
Lena Hidalgo added, “To allow judges like Judge McSpadden to lock people up — to lock black men up — because he does not trust them.”
“We’re talking about misdemeanors,” said Dr. James M. Douglas of the NAACP. “We’re not talking about people who broke into your house. We’re not talking about people who assaulted people.”
About the only person not speaking about McSpadden is McSpadden. But clearly, some believe he’s already said enough!
