NEW YORK – Alabama running back Derrick Henry was named the winner of the 2015 Heisman Trophy beating out Stanford running back Christian McCaffrey and Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson.
Henry received 378 first place votes after rushing for an SEC-record 1,986 yards. Henry becomes the first running back since another Crimson Tide player won the award – Mark Ingram winning in 2009.
Henry will lead his Alabama teammates into the college football playoff where they will face the Michigan State Spartans in Arlington, Texas at the Cotton Bowl. In the other semifinal, Watson will lead the Clemson Tigers against the Oklahoma Sooners.
