When walking into a bathroom, one has come to expect ‘please wash your hands signs.’

Women might get a friendly reminder to properly dispose feminine hygiene products. But by January 2018, women in Oklahoma can add ‘anti-abortion’ messages to their bathroom experience.

The bill will require all public bathrooms, including hospitals, schools, restaurants, and nursing homes to carry a sign which reads:

“There are many public and private agencies willing and able to help you carry your child to term and assist you and your child after your child is born, whether you choose to keep your child or to place him or her for adoption . . . the State of Oklahoma strongly urges you to contact them if you are pregnant.”

The pro-life plan will not come cheap since legislature did not approve funding. It’s going to cost around $2.3 million to carry out the signs.

Businesses are going to have to pay out of pocket.

The sign will also include a link to the Oklahoma Health Department website.

The bill’s sponsor, Sen. AJ Griffin said it is about informing the public.

“With 53 thousand Oklahoma babies born each year,” Griffin said. “There’s a significant number of those mothers that could benefit from the public services that are already available in the state of Oklahoma.”
