NEW YORK, NY - The last think you expect is for your doctor to take a selfie while you're going under the knife, unless you;re a celebrity.

Disturbing new details have emerged regarding the vocal chord procedure that ultimately resulted in Joan Rivers' death.

A staff member at Manhattan's Yorkville Endoscopy clinic told investigators that the doctor, who has not been publicly identified, took a selfie photo in the procedure room while Rivers was under anesthesia, the source said. As if that weren't violating enough, the source says the same doctor then performed a biopsy on Rivers without prior consent.

The clinic insists no biopsy was taken, but investigators aren't necessarily buying it. They believe Rivers' vocal chords started swelling after the doctor made a spur-of-the-moment decision to to remove  a growth with a scalpel.

The swelling may have cut off the flow of oxygen to her lungs, which could have triggered cardiac arrest. Rivers died a week later.

The clinic and doctors are now under a microscope, and time will tell whether or not Rivers' life was literally cut too short.
