ISLAMABAD – The Pakistani community in Houston is mourning the unexpected loss of a Pakistani pop star.

Junaid Jamshed was killed in a tragic plane crash that set a mountain ablaze early Wednesday morning near Islamabad.

Local TV footage showed the wreckage — and it's not pretty.

None of the 48-passengers survived.

“It was such a sad news early in the morning to hear about this. For a moment, I didn’t know how to react. The man has an extraordinary life,"
President Mian Nazir of the Pakistani American Association of Greater Houston said.

While most Americans have no clue who Jamshed was, in his home country, he was a celebrated cultural icon. Somewhat of a more religious Leonardo Dicaprio.

He will be remembered for his song writing, his television shows, his fashion, a religious leader, and for helping to develop Pakistan's rock music industry.

In the US, he owned stores in Houston, Dallas, Chicago and New York, which house his high-end designs.

His clothing company will be closed until Dec. 9 in his honor.

Fans all over have taken to the web to remember one of the most influential Muslim artists in the world And many are deeply devastated by the loss.

“He was on a good mission. He went all over the world. He taught old, young, middle aged people. He was not bad. He did it with his heart. He did it with passion. That’s how we will remember him,” Said Nazir said.

The cause of the crash is currently unknown. But while officials investigate the accident, those who knew the passengers will be forced to grieve over this mysterious catastrophe.
