PASADENA, Tx - The AES Deepwater Powerplant has been out of use since 2013, and on Sunday morning the power company demolished the boiler and 475-foot chimney on the property in Pasadena.

"The tower had not been in operation for a couple of years. With that said, a decision was made to raise the facility and bring [the tower] down," explained AES Communications representative Mary Ann Kabel.

The controlled demolition happened around 10 a.m. Sunday morning, in coordination with Pasadena police and fire departments. Organizers called the procedure "seamless".

AES is exploring other options for the Pasadena site moving forward.
