HOUSTON, TX – So the District 6 Senate seat election to replace the late Mario Gallegos came and went; now it looks like voters will be heading back to the polls because the seat has still not been filled.

The two leading candidates of the 8 that ran are former Harris County Commissioner, Sylvia Garcia and republican Carol Alvarado is headed for a run-off election to fill the vacant seat.

Garcia received 45.4% of the votes and Alvarado took home 41.6% of votes. The run-off date is still to be determined by Governor Rick Perry, but it looks like it won’t happen until late February or even March.

This district has been without representation since Gallegos passed away in October; hopefully this run-off election happens sooner than later.
