WASHINGTON, D.C. – There’s one thing for certain, Robert Levinson will not be home for the holidays. After that, it’s anybody’s guess.

Levinson disappeared in March 2007 during a business trip in Iran while he was supposedly working as a private eye looking into cigarette smuggling.

But Levinson’s family  keeps saying the retired FBI  agent was a spy working for the CIA.

Last week, White House spokesman Jay Carney said Levinson was not working for the government when he disappeared.

But now there are reports that somewhere out there is proof Levinson worked as a CIA spy while also working as a private detective.

Meantime, the Iranian government keeps saying not only is it not holding Levinson, but it also doesn’t know who he is or where he is.

Two years ago, the State Department said it had new evidence that he might be in southwest Asia somewhere.

Over the weekend, Secretary of State John Kerry says the U.S. has not abandoned Levinson, and that he, Kerry, has personally raised the issue with the Iranians at the highest levels.

And as we know with any impossible mission, if you’re caught, the secretary with disavow any knowledge of your existence.
