HOUSTON, TX – Everyone loves a good laugh. But according to a new list, Houston isn’t in on the joke!

A study from the aptly named “Humor Research Lab” at the University of Colorado has ranked our nation’s funniest cities. And although we’re not sure these researchers know the difference between high-brow humor or just plain being high. They’ve tallied our 50 biggest towns and according to them, Chicago is first on the funny list. Houston, on the other hand comes in at a very unfunny 37th.

Maybe the researchers need more research! They came to their questionably scientific conclusion by calculating a number of different factors in each city like: how many comedy clubs per square mile, the number of famous comedians or funny tweeters and the frequency of humor-related web searches from each city.

After Chicago, Boston came second, followed by Atlanta, Washington D.C. and Portland. New York and LA also make us laugh. Both are in the top ten.

But the state of Texas, just isn’t laughing! Dallas, Houston, El Paso, Arlington and San Antonio all pop-up on the unfunny side of the list. And at the bottom of the barrel is Fort Worth!

So, according to the brain-trust up in Boulder, Texas is just not that funny. The interesting thing is, here Houston, we were able to find many folks on the street that made us smile. Now that’s funny!
