PEARLAND, Texas — The pilot of a single-engine plane died Wednesday night after his aircraft crashed just outside the Pearland Regional Airport.

Jarod Ryan, 36, was flying out around 4:45 p.m. when his plane went down near CR 127 and 124 in Brazoria County, investigators said.

Investigators are still searching for information regarding a possible aircraft malfunction or the pilot’s level of experience, Sheriff Stephen Woodard said.

Woodard said deputies were called to the seen around 5 p.m., and were later joined by investigators with the Federal Aviation Administration.
