HOUSTON, TX – All you guys out there; if your hair isn’t as thick as it used to be, you might want to visit your doctor.

There is a link between hair loss and heart disease according to researchers at the University of Tokyo; though they say that if it’s just a receding hair line, this study doesn’t apply to you.

Dr. John P. Higgins with UTHealth and LBJ Hospital says, “If they were just bald on the vertex or top of the head, these guys seem to have about a 30% to 40% increased chance of having coronary heart disease.”

Also linked to heart disease, insulin resistance, or inflammation which causes blood vessels difficulty in getting the blood to the hair follicles. In addition, sensitivity to testosterone which may affect the amount of hair growth.

“This may be an indicator light. It may not mean anything, it may be a false alarm, but at least getting checked out you’ll know whether or not there is any underlying problem. Just covering it up with a toupee, no, sorry guys, that doesn’t help you out.”

So don’t panic, but if you notice less up top, you might want to get checked out.
