Boy rescued after being buried alive in sand

MICHIGAN CITY, IN – A 6-year-old boy was buried alive for more than three hours when a hole in the sand at the Indiana Dunes collapsed around him.

Nathan Woessner was playing on the shore Of Lake Michigan when he suddenly dropped into the sand.

While his family tried to dig him out, the dune collapsed further.

The little boy’s family called 911 sparking a rescue operation that lasted almost four hours.

Nathan was airlifted by helicopter to a Chicago hospital where he remains in critical condition with sand in his lungs.
