MADISON, NC – What does it mean to be a man?
Bushmaster, the manufacturer of the .223 rifle used in the Newtown massacre, made the association with their Man Card campaign by implying that owning a Bushmaster, makes you a man (if you have the right plumbing that is.)
There is an outcry by many that Bushmasters’ Man Card website should have been taken down immediately after the Newtown shootings. Some saying, the connection between guns and masculinity is ridiculous.
Bushmaster could have gotten their idea from Hollywood.
But look to Hollywood, and that connection might not be so farfetched. Dirty Harry with his .44 magnum or Rambo carrying the Barrett sniper rifle, and the association is fairly evident.
So is the Man Card campaign really the problem? Or that gun laws haven’t changed enough?
Let’s face it, gun companies are getting heat right now and you can decide if a “Man Card” is right or wrong.
Newtown has made people hyper sensitive when it comes to gun control.
Even a Wall Street private equity firm, Cerberus Capital Management who owns stake in Bushmaster, is selling off their assets in all firearms companies.
So- real men may not eat quiche, but does a real man really need a Man Card?
By the way; when we tried to go to Bushmaster’s Man Card website it was no longer accessible.
