CHICAGO - Rusi and Ivelina Ivanova were not sure if their newborn girl would live because she was not breathing. When the baby girl was born, the umbilical cord was wrapped around her neck.
Ivelina suddenly went into labor at home when she didn't have time to make it to the hospital. "I was planning to have a home delivery but the contractions came very quickly," she said.
Rusi had to step up and play delivery man. Thankfully, he called 9-1-1 and followed the dispatcher's instructions in very tense and uncertain moments.
In a flash paramedics made it to their house to help the lifeless baby.
"She wasn't moving so we did our best to suction her mouth and nose; tried to stimulate her a little bit to try to get her to cry," said Park Ridge paramedic and firefighter, Aaron Kuester.
Mother and baby are doing well.
