HOUSTON, TX-- Tuesday was a great day to be a teacher! No, not because of STAAR testing. Because it was Teacher Appreciation Day at Chick-fil-A.

That meant a free sandwich for any teacher who brought in their school ID. "They are really unsung heroes," says Branden Gibson, owner of the Chick-fil-A on Westheimer near Dunvale. "They work long hours. They don't get a lot of pats on the backs or appreciation."

Joleen Evans works at the Second Baptist School, "Chick-fil-A is good any day, but whenever they're offering it complimentary to us, it's a very special day."

L.B. Bryant teaches high school English and heard about the off on the radio, "I got here first... one of the first to get here."

"We actually called before we came because we're doing STAAR testing this week," says Jannisha Murray who drove over from Lee High School for several of the teachers who couldn't go themselves. "The manager told us to just get the teacher IDs and bring them to the store."

And those 25 ID's got them 25 free sandwiches.

"Lee High School is right in our back yard," says Gibson, "They're there. They're working hard, trying to help these students be successful. So the least we could do is say, 'Hey, totally understand you can't come, but still we want to acknowledge and appreciate what you do.'"

"I know it's a small token," he acknowledges, "It's just a chicken sandwich (but) it's a really good chicken sandwich."  No argument there, and it's for a great cause.

Chick-fil-A, we give Teacher Appreciation Day an A+!
