HOUSTON, TX – Where there’s smoke, there’s fire. And according to a new report, a bunch more diseases from smoking cigarettes than originally thought.

Nobody should be shocked by now to hear that smoking causes lung cancer. But now the U.S. Surgeon General is piling on the pain, by adding type 2 diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis and even erectile dysfunction as ailments associated with puffing away.

2014 marks the 50th year doctors and scientists have been fighting the war on smoking, and although they have made great strides in how cigarettes have been viewed over the years, Surgeon General Boris Lushniak wants more Americans to kick the habit with these new warnings, which also include macular degeneration, cleft palate birth defects and liver cancer.

These new findings could make a difference and keep a few more folks from lighting-up, but the greatest motivator might not be more warnings, but money. So put out those cigarettes, if not for you (or for the people around you) but for the health of your wallet.
