An elk is getting justice from beyond the grave. Two Boulder, Colorado police officers are facing a slew of charges after shooting and killing a community’s beloved elk on New Year`s Day.

‘There was no reason for him to be out where the elk was to get out of his car and shoot him nothing justified in that,’ said Valerie Yates, neighbor.

A series of condemning text messages doesn’t help the officers’ case.

The officers are facing unlawful taking of an elk, taking an elk out of season, official misconduct and conspiracy charges. They also have felony charges of attempting to influence a public servant, two counts of tampering with evidence, and forgery, not to mention a wildlife poaching count.

Talk about being on the wrong side of the ‘tracks.’
