MILFORD, CT – High school prom – it’s supposed to be one of the most exciting nights of a teen’s life.

But sadly for one Connecticut girl, the day of her junior prom turned deadly.

It happened just after 7:15 Friday morning. A staff member at Jonathan Law High School in Milford, Connecticut, found 16-year-old Maren Sanchez in a stairwell, stab wounds in her neck.

She was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

“It is a terrible day here in Milford,” Connecticut state senator Gail Slossberg said. “Our hearts go out to the families, to everyone who was affected — our thoughts and prayers are with them. We are all heartbroken at this loss.”

Police arrested a 16-year-old suspect. They haven’t revealed a motive, but students say he’d asked Maren to the dance and was furious when she turned him down.

Now the dance is postponed and students are taking to social media to express their devastation over their classmate’s death.

Not exactly the way teens dream of remembering their high school prom.
