ROUND ROCK, TX – Computer giant Dell is tightening its belt. No, Dell’s not firing anybody; well not yet. They’re asking some of their employees to quit.

Now there are at least two ways to look at this. One is that this greedy corporation wants to avoid paying unemployment, and the public backlash that comes from having to lay people off.

Another is that to lower payroll expenses, Dell is giving employees who think they can find another job an invitation to go do just that, with the added bonus of a “separation package.”

Paid to quit your job. Sounds great right? Well remember, if you quit, you can’t collect unemployment.

Dell won’t comment further about the program, the number of employees taking advantage of the deal or the cost of the program. But hey, at least Dell’s giving workers a choice, we doubt Kubiak was given that luxury.
