HOUSTON, TX - An effort to clear out a shuttered southeast Houston convenience store ended with the discovery of a dismembered and decomposing body.

Houston Police say two men were cleaning up the area, tossing stuff in a black trash can. They told officers they smelled something, but thought it might be a dead dog. That is until they found a bag full of body parts.

"Because of the advanced state of decomposition, we couldn't see anything definitive as far as clothing," said homicide investigator Ramon Cervantes. "They're going over it very tedious in the medical examiner's office."

Officers say they don't know if the victim is black or white, male or female. They did find a small purse in the trash can, but it didn't have any ID and investigators aren't sure if it belonged to the victim.
