AUSTIN, TX – This year’s South By Southwest Festival has been deeply shaken after a drunk driver plowed into a crowd of revelers, killing two.

The  driver, Rashad Owens, remains in jail with bond set at $3 million, now officially charged with capital murder. Police say the Killeen man was driving a car that had been reported stolen.

Owens was reportedly scheduled to perform at Austin’s Club 1808, near the scene of the accident.

Now Owens’ friends are offering a bizarre apology.

“We’re sorry for those, the 23 that’s injured, we’re sorry,” Lamar Wilson said.

The Austin community is still in shock — as it remembers the two people killed in the accident: Austin resident Jamie West and Steven Craenmehr, from the Netherlands.

“I want to express my deepest sympathy and condolences to those who were injured or lost their lives…in this very tragic accident,” Austin mayor Lee Leffingwell said.

Austin police released a list of the injured, which reportedly includes residents of Sugar Land and Dickinson.

Still, Austinites say the show must continue.

Even in the face of tragedy, the beat goes on.
