NEW ORLEANS, LA – Tropical Storm Karen is eying the Gulf Coast. From Louisiana to Florida, residents are getting ready.

If there’s one thing that can stop a government shutdown in its tracks (well, sort of), it’s Mother Nature. Furloughed FEMA workers are being called back to “protect life and property.” And in the Sunshine State, some furloughed National Guard members were also getting back to work.

The entire state of Louisiana and parts of Florida are under a state of emergency in case Karen careens towards them.

Meanwhile, a hurricane watch is in effect from Grand Isle, Louisiana all the way to Destin, Florida. Though, if Karen does become a hurricane, it’ll probably be a weak category one storm.

She’s the 11th named storm during this unusually quiet hurricane season. Let’s hope this late bloomer blows away.
