HONOLULU, HI – Hawaii might be the only U.S. state not connected to the mainland, but that’s not stopping it from joining in on a main topic. They’re trying to legalize same-sex marriage.

Hawaii’s governor Neil Abercrombie put a special legislative session on schedule for next month in order to pass a bill that would legalize it. The state already allows civil unions.

The push came after the Supreme Court struck down parts of the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), and Prop 8 in California back in June.

If it passes, Hawaii would be the 14th state to legalize same-sex marriage.
