VIENNA, AUSTRIA – Here’s the plus, it’s said to wash your sins away. The bad news? It might contain E. coli!
That’s what a new study conducted in Austria, is saying about their holy water. Eww, so much for cleanliness is next to godliness.
A medical university in Vienna tested 21 springs that fed holy water basins in Austrian churches as well as 18 other holy water fonts and found 86% of the samples contained potentially harmful bacteria. In some cases, levels as high as those found in poo. That’s enough to say, holy $%!#.
Again, these findings are from Austria, so we spoke to the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston for answers about our local holy water quality. They say our holy water is regular water, straight from the tap and blessed by a priest or deacon. It’s perfectly safe for baptisms and blessings, but drinking it is not recommended.
So feel free to quench the Holy Spirit with it, but maybe not quench your thirst. Amen to that!
