HOUSTON – Can you believe it, a year’s gone by and another Houston Restaurant Weeks is upon us? If you like eating out, and doing your part to help the Houston Food Bank, that’s a good thing. And this year, you can bet it’s going to be bigger and better than ever. That’s why we’re hanging out with the big man in Houston’s hotel/restaurant scene, Chef Peter Laufer at Royal Sonesta’s ARA.
“I’m originally grom Germany,” Chef Peter told us when we stopped by the restaurant for lunch on Thursay. from Munich Germany. “I started my apprenticeship for three years in a small hotel and made my way up, worked in Switzerland, Austria ,Italy, France.”
Today, Houston is home. And this month it’s all about the food bank. And Chew on This: Chef Peter’s menu for Restaurant Weeks faces a challenge most others don’t, the pressure to introduce Texas cuisine to traveler’s staying at the hotel.
“We’re fighting, as a hotel/restaurant, with the surrounding steak houses and celebrity restaurants around us, but we still get a great capture and leave a positive impression with the guests.”
Lunch at the hotel is $20, with $3 going to the food bank and dinner is 35 with $5 to the food bank. And to titilate your taste buds even further, they’re offering a handful of deconstructed cocktails at the bar. Basically you order the drink, they give you the ingredients and you mix it yourself, however you like.
