HOUSTON - Is Uber taking limo drivers in Houston for a ride? Friday, some upset limo drivers at Bush Airport turned off their Uber apps to refuse cheap rides.
It's all in protest of the cost of Uber SELECT fare rides.
"Uber SELECT is basically cheaper than a cab," said limo driver Jon Ouazdi.
Ouazdi said he's licensed only for Uber BLACK, which is a for limo rides, but Uber forces them to give rides at Uber SELECT rates, and says that's illegal.
"Uber SELECT is for TNC license. They cannot use it to send trips to a limo licensed," Ouazdi stated.
Ouazdi says limo drivers go through extensive background checks to become licensed and insured, and that should count for something.
Uber issued this statement:
"Before Uber SELECT existed, limo partners on only Uber BLACK would wait significantly longer for requests, but since we expanded our product offering, we've seen drivers' income increase by more than 30%."
For now, looks like some limo drivers in Houston are slamming the brakes on Uber, and put their rides in park until they get to the bottom of this fare fight.
