HOUSTON - “This week at Discovery Green we’re trying to make learning fun for kids,” says Lori Ann San Miguel, Discovery Green's Programming Coordinator.
Discovery Green and BG Group are hosting Girlstart this week. “Girlstart is a non-profit organization that works with trying to get girls more interested in science, technology, engineering and math. Because all of these fields are usually male dominated, we want to show girls that they can join in as well, that they can have just as much fun because it’s not just for boys” says Girlstart's Katelyn James.
Her colleague, Bonnie-Claire Duren adds, “There are so many studies that show that girls are outperforming boys in science, engineering, math and those fields but they’re so under represented in the actual career field so we’re working to change that.”
You should know though, Girlstart isn't just for girls, the group is trying to make learning fun for the whole family. Today's fun included making slime and green insta-snow (for St. Patrick's Day). The foam party is also a BLAST!
If you want to join the fun, swing by Discovery Green between 10am-4pm Wednesday March 18 through Friday March 20. You can't beat the price since it's FREE!
