NEW YORK, NY -- Shopping to earn reward points just got a lot more enticing! Seven major brands like Macy's, Exxon, Hulu, even AT&T have joined forces to allow customers to use loyalty points earned with one company to pay for a purchase with another.

The new program, which launches in May, is called Plenti, and it's the first of its kind. The team of retailers will be managed by American Express and the hope is to of course, get customers to spend as much money as possible.

Researchers found the average customer is a part of about 29 reward programs but only actively uses about eight. American Express says they hope to add restaurant chains and grocery stores to the list eventually.
