Man is swept away during rescue attempt in Galveston

GALVESTON, TX — A man was swept out to sea in Galveston while trying to save a woman.

The coast guard says Stephen Espedal, 37,  was trying to rescue a woman in San Luis pass, Sunday night.

The woman was eventually rescued by other people and made it back to shore.

However, Espedal did not make it.

The Coast Guard and local agencies have deployed both air and boat crews to aid in the search between Freeport and Galveston.
