HOUSTON, TX – Mayor Annise Parker is a woman who takes action. So, when she learned that this year there will be roughly 1.3 million traffic accidents due to texting while driving, she knew it was time to make a change.
Mayor Parker has partnered up with her BFF, Rapper Bun B, to make a public service announcement about the dangers of texting while driving.
Parker says, “We have to change the culture that exists that thinks well I’m just taking my eyes off the road for a moment. It’s no big deal. It is a big deal, it kills people.”
So, everyone from the Rockets, the Houston Dynamo and the Astros, to Sheriff Adrian Garcia, to everyday citizens formally committed to Mayor Parker’s campaign, promising to stop texting while driving and to also help spread the word on how dangerous it really is.
Everyone should commit, but if safety and common decency isn’t your thing, just try it on your commute home today. See if you can manage to survive without sending that ‘LOL’ or ‘BRB’ while you’re behind the wheel; because we’ve already told you the statistics you face if you can’t.
