NEW YORK, NY – It’s been 12 years of tears, wars and remembrances since the terrorist attacks of September 11th, 2001.

Memorial services were held in New York City, Shanksville, Pa., the Pentagon and the White House.

The mournful ringing of a solitary bell accompanied moments of silence that began at exactly 8:46, the time when the first jet hit the north tower of the World Trade Center in New York City, followed at 9:03 when the second plane hit the South Tower.

The Pentagon was next at 9:37, and then in a morning filled with unthinkable horror, we watched the South Tower crumble at 9:59.

The tolling bell continued four minutes later for the Americans who fought back, and died, in a lonely field near Shanksville.

And finally, at 11:28, the North Tower fell.

This fire engine pulled from the rubble of the world trade center will soon be on permanent display when the National September 11 Memorial Museum opens.

This also marked the first anniversary of the attack on the U.S. embassy mission in Benghazi, Libya, that killed the U.S. ambassador and three others.

Someone wanted us to remember this day by setting off an explosion that damaged the Libyan foreign ministry building and bank.

As if we really needed that for us to remember this day, especially here in Houston.
