HOUSTON, TX – There’s really only one rule when it comes to running a food truck: whatever you do, do it monster-big and monster-good, even if it’s something as simple as peanut-butter and jelly.
“We make all of our own nut-butters,” co-owner of the Monster PB&J truck, Jake Thorn explains, “there’s no salt, sugars or preservatives added to it so that makes the nut-butter taste the way it actually should be.”
The monster PB&J truck hit the Houston food scene only four-months ago, but already it’s making a big splash. And if you’re thinking this is your grandma’s soggy, old grape-jelly sandwich, think again, this is PB&J gone gourmet.
“For the average peanut-butter and jelly goer we definitely suggest a peanut-butter with strawberry jam, bananas and Nutella,” Jake says. “I mean, there’s no way you can go wrong with that, but for the daring we always have the cashew-butter, strawberries with jalapeno jam and our spicy fuego sauce.”
And if that doesn’t turn your tassel, chew on this: the brains behind this purple monster designed it to offer something for everybody, even those with special diets.
“The goal is to make sure that everybody can eat no matter what the circumstances are, for our gluten-free, for our vegans our vegetarians, just to bring everybody back home and there’s no better way to do than peanut-butter and jelly sandwiches.”
So far it’s a niche that’s working. Turning out more than a hundred sandwiches a day is proof enough that this team is onto something. And besides:
“Who doesn’t love peanut-butter and jellies?” Jake says. “I mean, it’s the best childhood dream and you cannot get enough of it even when you get older.”
