CAPE CANAVERAL, FL – We were the first to put a man on the moon, and now a lot of the United States space efforts are focused on Mars.

NASA even launched a spacecraft on Monday which is headed towards the red planet.

But is America losing their outer space dominance?

A lot of Americans seem to think so.

According to a Huffington Post poll, half of Americans think the U.S. is losing its leadership in space exploration.

Many of those people who think the U.S. might be losing its lunar luster think private companies should run our space missions in the future.

The Curiosity Rover is one of five active NASA missions involving Mars, and the sixth mission, MAVEN, is now on the way.

With six missions in play, maybe a new discovery is on the horizon. That would certainly put us back on top in the space race.
