Use your manners, s’il vous plaît!
Cafe owners in southern France aren’t playing around when they use Shakespeare’s term and say the milk of human kindness should be in order when you order your café au lait.
The Petite Syrah cafe in Nice has launched a “Nice” new system where rude people have to pay more for their cafe.
That same cup will be reduced to just under $6 for anyone who remembers to add, “S’il vous plait (thank you).”But the coffee can be yours for roughly $2 if you can muster the manners to greet the workers and thank them for their service:
“Hello, a coffee please (Bonjour, un café, s’il vous plait).”
And no, this is not some snotty statement the French are making. The cafe’s owner says its their way of saying “Keep calm and carry on” to all the stressed, rude customers.
I say, “bravo!” to this cafe owner. I am so sick and tired of encountering rude people. It’s about time people have to literally pay the price for being rude. Look if your cup runneth over with kindness, this cafe will runneth your cup over with coffee. Salut to that! Remember at the end of the day we’re going to have bad days, but that doesn’t give you the right to project that onto others. Just take a breath, have a cafe au lait and say “C’est la vie!”
And that’s today’s helping of The Online Dish with Maggie.
