CLEVELAND, Ohio - By now, you may have heard about 12-year-old Tamir Rice.
He was shot and killed by a police officer at a playground in Cleveland, Ohio for carrying what cops believed was a real firearm.
Turns out, Tamir was only carrying an air-soft toy gun.
Cleveland police have now released the surveillance video from that day showing Tamir being shot about 1.5 to two seconds after cops pulled up to the scene.
Cops were responding to a 911 call about "a guy with a pistol" -- the caller goes on to say "it's probably fake."
"This is not an effort to exonerate, this is not an effort to show the public that anybody did anything wrong," said Deputy Chief Ed Tomba of the Cleveland Police Department.
"This is an obvious tragic event where a young member of our community lost their life."
Officials say Tamir didn't follow police orders and allegedly reached into his waistband for the replica gun.
"Three commands were given to 'show your hands,'" said Tomba.
