ALEXANDRIA, LA – A 13-year-old in Alexandria, LA has been charged with animal cruelty after allegedly posting a video of him slapping a puppy across the face.

The video, which has since been taken down, lasts just seven seconds and shows the 13-year-old setting the puppy into place in front of him on what appears to be a bench, before delivering an audible blow to the little dog’s head.

Alexandria Police Sergeant Bruce Fairbanks says they got calls from around the world after the video went viral.

A local veterinarian checked out the puppy and he appears to be fine.

Police say the disturbing video is part of a new online trend called smack-cam. It’s where a person slaps an unsuspecting friend while another person films the slap.
