GALVESTON - After 3 days in the water off Galveston island, the search is over. Crews with the U.S. Coast Guard found what they believe is the body of Samira Carlon, a sixth grader from Kipp Voyage charter school. Her body was found on Stewart Beach late Saturday morning.

The little girl had been swimming off of seawall at 57th Street Thursday, as part of a field trip with the school. 20 children were being chaperoned by two adults, including a lifeguard. But ocean currents were stronger than normal due to runoff of flood waters, and the little girl went under and never resurfaced.

A letter from the school says that Samira "was deeply beloved at Kipp Voyage, with a constant smile that lit up a room."
