A chase suspect tells Houston Police he refused to stop because he was "afraid."

The pursuit started around 2 a.m. when officers tried to pull over a truck on Scott Street. The driver instead took off, leading officers from the Gulf Freeway to Spur 5 to Wheeler. That's where he hit a curb and knocked off a tire. Even so, he kept driving until the truck wouldn't move.

Officers say the suspect jumped out of the truck and tried to run down into a bayou. Because of the rain the past few days, it was pretty muddy, so he didn't make it far. Neither did an HPD car that got stuck and had to be towed out.
