AUSTIN, TX - Texting while driving is already illegal in some parts of Texas and now a lawmaker in Austin is trying to ban the wheel statewide. That includes while your vehicle is stopped at a stop sign or red light. The Texas House approved the ban on texting while driving , but it could face a gubernatorial veto.
Studies by AAA show just how many accidents can be caused by distracted teens:
- Cell phones caused 12% of accidents
- Just talking to passengers was at 15%
- Singing or dancing to music was the cause in 6% of cases
