CHELSEA, MA – A tree is a place where birds and other critters of the forest can make a home. Raise a family, and find protection in times of trouble.
Most of the time, we’d probably prefer our trees not attack us, like when we’re in a park with our kids. But you can’t always get what you want in Chelsea, Massachusetts, especially when a tree falls on top of a half-dozen kids.
Two-year-old David Mancia was in the park with his parents and grandmother. He received a fractured skull.
Evelyn Mancia is his sister. "They were standing right where he was playing, and then when the tree fell, it was just the shock to my parents. They ran over to help them get out. Then, the minute he was transferred to the hospital, when he saw my sister, he opened his eyes."
The city recently renovated the park, but no one from the city has said why the tree fell on the kids.
