HOUSTON – Texas senator Ted Cruz limped into Houston to lick his wounds after his third-place finish in the Nevada Republican caucuses.
He turned up at his campaign headquarters to show the flag and to convince his supporters that losing is actually winning. “And this call from Texas to the country: We have six days to stand together and say we will not give up on our country, we will not give up on our freedoms, we will not give up on our children."
Cruz also brought with him Texas governor Greg Abbott and Abbott's endorsement. “When I vote for Ted Cruz, I know, I know that he will fulfill the promise of true Conservative values in the United States of America.”
But the big story was Donald Trump’s huge win in Nevada, where he hit the jackpot with nearly every voting group. "We won with young, we won with old, we won with highly educated, we won with poorly educated. I love the poorly educated."
Trump ended the day with 49.5 percent of the votes, double the take for Cruz and Marco Rubio combined.
Even as Nevada Republicans were caucusing, the Florida senator was trying to convince people that voting for a winner was really voting for a loser. “We cannot nominate someone who cannot win because they cannot unite us. I will unite us."
By the way, two knuckleheads dressed in Ku Klux Klan robes and hoods showed up at a Nevada caucus site to show their apparent support for Trump.
But, of course, there’s no way to tell who was under those hoods, and they weren’t taking them off.
