SEATTLE, WA – It’s the smell of money for marijuana shops in Washington state, but it’s a smell that banks are shying away from.

Money stored near marijuana tends to absorb the smell, so it’s not that hard to pick out the bills that come from those stores.

So some banks are refusing to accept money from those shops because even though it’s legal on a state level, there are still federal laws against marijuana. Banks are run by the feds and could face penalties for money laundering.
