TOPEKA, KS – It will be the ultimate gay affair. This weekend, two wizards will tie the knot.
Davis Hammet is organizing a wedding between Dumbledore (from J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter series) and Gandalf (from Lord of the Rings).
It sounds magical, but it didn't come out of nowhere. It all started with a tweet where Rowling applauded the Irish people for passing same-sex marriage.
In response, Westboro Baptist Church tweeted back something to the effect: "now Dumbledore and Gandalf can get married," says Hammet, Director of Operations for Planting Peace, a nonprofit organization in Topeka, Kansas.
To that, Rowling fired back: "Alas, the sheer awesomeness of such a union in such a place would blow your tiny bigoted minds out of your thick sloping skulls."
“J.K. Rowling [is] ashamed of Christ, and Christ is going to be ashamed of [her] on the last day,” says Steve Drain of the Westboro Baptist Church.
Westboro's retort to Rowling also included a vulgar sign outside of their Topeka church, which caught the eye of Planting Peace.
"We were thinking how we can utilize this situation to bring a positive message in to the community,” says Hammet.
With that, the big day is June 7. Westboro says they will be busy.
