HOUSTON -- Your dreams of immortality might have just died and gone on to the great beyond.

This week, Nature, a scientific journal, published an analysis of the human lifespan from 38 different countries and the results show we’re not making too much progress in the record setting long life department.

Even though more people are living past triple digits than ever, the average human life naturally has been maxing out at age 115.

“It’s because we’ve reached the limits of what our bodies can regenerate, so we can’t really reverse or extend the aging process.” Noted Dr. Rebecca Storey, an Associate Professor of Anthropology at the University of Houston.

It appears our oldest people were living longer and longer, then things sort of plateaued out at 114.9 years in the 1990s.

However, with new developments in medicine and biological engineering -- that 115 ceiling might seem more like a floor.

The recent developments in BioTech have yielded huge breakthroughs for things like artificial and 3D printed organs and surgical nanobots you can swallow; and it’s not too far out of the realm of possibility that you could be uploading your conscious mind into a computerized body which would take humanity to an entirely new plane of existence.

“If you’re able to replace organs with, in essence, much younger versions of them when you’re in your 80s or 90s, it might really expand our life spans, but we won’t know until it happens,” said Dr. Storey.

“Every time we try adding technology to something, when you’re taking human stuff like that away, you’re also taking away stuff like human intellect, mind, compassion. That’s what honestly makes us different than animals,"  said Mandu, a University of Houston student.

But remember that no matter how long you live, it's not about quantity, but quality.

“The important part is to live a longer life with a healthier body in essence instead of spending the last 30 years of your life enferm. What fun is that?" Storey said.

Now, I know you're dying to find out how old you're going to live to be -- just don't grow up too fast!
